Charles II (German: Karl II.; 10 April 1651, in Heidelberg – 26 May 1685, in Heidelberg) was Elector Palatine from 1680 to 1685. He was the son of Charles I Louis, Elector Palatine of the House of Wittelsbach , and Charlotte of Hesse-Kassel .

Charles II (1651 –1685) Elector Palatine Knight of the Garter. Married Wilhelmine Ernestine of Denmark and Norway of Denmark (1650 – 1706) daughter of Frederick III King of Denmark and Norway.
In 1685, with the death of his Protestant cousin, the Elector Palatine Charles II, Philip William inherited the Electorate of the Palatinate, which thus switched from a Protestant to a Catholic territory. Charles II's sister, now the Duchess of Orléans and Louis XIV's sister-in-law, also claimed the Palatinate.
As reigning prince-elector of the Palatinate, Charles Theodore won the hearts of his subjects by founding an academy of science, stocking up the museums' collections and supporting the arts. When Maximilian III Joseph of Bavaria died in 1777, Charles Theodore became also elector and duke of Bavaria and moved to Munich .
